Experience a classic safari in Tanzania's Tarangire, which is known for its vast elephant herds, towering baobab trees, and breathtaking savannah landscapes.
Tour Duration: Full Day
Tarangire National Park, located in Tanzania’s Manyara Region, is a premier safari destination known for its vast savannahs and iconic baobab trees. Covering nearly 2,850 square kilometers, the park is home to the largest elephant population in northern Tanzania, with herds that can number in the hundreds. Other wildlife includes zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and hyenas.
From June to October, the park becomes a hotspot for wildlife viewing as animals gather around the Tarangire River, the only permanent water source. Birdwatchers will also enjoy over 500 recorded species, including colorful lovebirds and raptors like the bateleur eagle.
With its stunning landscapes of woodlands, swamps, and acacia glades, Tarangire is easily accessible, just a few hours from Arusha or Moshi, making it perfect for day safaris or as part of a northern Tanzania adventure.
Your safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi and drive you to Tarangire National Park. The journey takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, during which you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Tanzania.
Upon arriving at the park gate and completing the registration process, your game drive will begin. You will have the chance to explore various habitats, including savannahs, acacia forests, and swamps. During your adventure, your guide will help you spot wildlife, such as large herds of elephants, big cats, and other mammals, including giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, and various species of antelope. Additionally, the park is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 550 recorded bird species.
You will stop at a designated picnic site to enjoy a packed lunch. These areas have great views and can be a great place to spot small wildlife or simply take in the scenery dominated by beautiful baobab trees.
After lunch, you will continue your exploration of the reserve, focusing on different areas. Your guide will drive along the banks of the Tarangire River, where many animals gather, particularly during the dry season. This offers another opportunity to see a variety of wildlife and search for any species you may have missed in the morning.
After your final game drive through the park, you will start your journey back to your hotel in Moshi. As the day comes to an end, you will take with you unforgettable memories, stunning photographs, and the true essence of an African safari.
