Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly greeted by an enthusiastic representative from Explore Active. They will escort you to your preferred hotel or one that has been pre-arranged for you, where you can relax and take advantage of amenities such as hot water, friendly staff, a swimming pool, and internet access.
-> Before embarking on your climb, a pre-climb briefing and gear check will be conducted to ensure that you are fully equipped and prepared for the journey. With the guidance of our skilled and knowledgeable expert guides, you will set out on the Marangu route with confidence and security.
If you have some free time before the climb, we recommend exploring the surrounding areas and acclimatizing to the altitude. Our local guides and representatives will be available to assist you.
On the first day of your Kilimanjaro climb, you will start with a morning briefing and team introductions. Then, you will drive to the Eastern Gate, Marangu, which is located at an altitude of 1,879 meters. Your head guide will take care of all the necessary permits and registrations before you begin the journey to Mandara Hut at 2,720 meters. The trail passes through a rainforest, so make sure to bring a raincoat as rain showers are likely.
To avoid altitude sickness, it is important to follow these guidelines:
-> Stay hydrated by drinking small amounts of water regularly, aiming for a minimum of 4 liters per day.
-> Consider taking Diamox, as prescribed by your physician, in the morning to alleviate symptoms of altitude sickness.
-> Listen to your body and inform your guide immediately if you experience any adverse symptoms.

As we make our way, we'll come across the Kifinika Hill on our left, with glimpses of Mawenzi and Kibo appearing intermittently. We'll take a break for lunch at Kambi Ya Taabu, where we'll enjoy a picnic. Later in the afternoon, we'll arrive at Horombo Huts, where we can spend some time relaxing before gathering together for dinner.

Take a moment to rest and recharge your energy in preparation for the upcoming summit attempt during the night. Remember to purify your water, replace the batteries in your camera and headlamp, pack your snacks, and get ready for the final push.

On the 4th day of our climb, it's time to get serious as we prepare to summit. You'll be awakened at midnight, and we'll embark on a nighttime trek to reach the summit while still having enough daylight to descend. Make sure to dress in layers, as it will be cold, but you'll need to remove some clothing as the day progresses.
-> The first half of the ascent involves a steep, winding path of rocky terrain. We'll maintain a slow but steady pace to reach the summit. As we approach the crater rim, the sun will begin to rise, and we recommend taking a moment to enjoy what is often considered one of the most beautiful sunrises in the world.
-> From Gilman's Point, it will take another 1 and a half to 2 hours to reach Uhuru Peak, which stands at 5,895 meters. The gradient is much milder, and the terrain easier, making the final stretch more manageable. Reaching the summit will make all the hours of effort worth it.
-> Today will likely be the longest day of your life, but it could also be the best. After reaching the summit, we'll head back down to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.
