They will then escort you to the designated hotel or one of your choosing. The hotel boasts comfortable rooms, hot water, a friendly staff, a swimming pool, and internet access to ensure a comfortable stay before your climb.
-> Before embarking on the journey, a pre-climb briefing and equipment check will be conducted to ensure that you have all the necessary items and are properly prepared for the climb. Our highly experienced guides will accompany you every step of the way on the Umbwe route to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on Mount Kilimanjaro.
-> If time permits, it is recommended to explore the surrounding areas and acclimate to the altitude prior to starting the climb. Our local guides and representatives will be more than happy to suggest activities and sights to see in the area and assist with any additional arrangements.
On the first day of your six-day trek to Mount Kilimanjaro, you will depart from your hotel in Moshi, register at Umbwe Gate for the necessary paperwork, and begin your ascent towards Umbwe Cave Camp. The hike will be a mix of challenging climbs and leisurely walks through the beauty of Kilimanjaro's mountain landscapes, with breaks for drinking water and replenishing food supplies. The small winding path will take you through rainforest and along the Umbwe river, leading to Umbwe Cave Camp for the first night's camping at an altitude of about 2,850m. Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature along the way to the camp.
On day two of the trek, we depart from Umbwe Cave Camp and soon leave the forests behind. The sheer wall of the Western Breach becomes visible as the mists roll up the Great Barranco, appearing and disappearing as we make our way towards Baranco Camp. By the end of the day, we will have arrived at Baranco Camp where the camp will be set up by the crew for the night.
On day three of our trek, we will embark on a challenging but rewarding hike up the Barranco Wall. This will lead us to a scenic trail on the south-eastern flank of Kibo, where we will be treated to panoramic views of the Southern Icefields. As we progress, the terrain will become more rocky with scree, but we will also have the opportunity to see pockets of lush vegetation in sheltered areas. Our final destination for the day is the Karanga camp, which is situated at an altitude of 3,995 meters. This is the last water point before reaching the summit, and the hike is expected to take between 3-4 hours.
Rise and shine! Start your day with a delicious breakfast before setting off on your journey to summit Barranco Wall. To avoid crowds, it is best to leave the camp as early as possible. The ascent up Barranco Wall is not challenging and should only take around an hour. Once you reach the top, take a break and capture some amazing photos in front of the Kibo volcano.
Next, you will embark on a scenic hike to Karanga Camp, with several ups and downs along the way. Our experienced guides will set a suitable pace to ensure an enjoyable and comfortable journey for the group. Upon arrival at Karanga Camp, you will be treated to a warm lunch. After a short rest, you will continue your ascent to Barafu Camp (4,673 m) where a hot dinner awaits. To ensure optimal performance for the night climb, it is recommended to spend the remainder of the day relaxing and getting a good night's sleep.
As we depart from Barafu Camp (4,673m) at night, we begin our journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro: Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Although the climb is relatively straightforward, the high altitude can present a challenge. To ensure the safety and well-being of each climber, we will be accompanied by a personal guide for the entire ascent. After reaching the summit of Uhuru Peak, we have the option to descend to the nearest glacier before returning to Barafu Camp for a 2-hour rest. From there, we will continue our descent to Millennium Camp (3,950m), where we can reflect on our successful summit bid.
On the final day of your Kilimanjaro adventure, wake up surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of nature. The sense of relief and satisfaction of reaching the summit will be unforgettable. Fuel up with a delicious warm breakfast before making your way down to the Mweka Gate (1,640m) with your fellow climbers. Take a moment to reflect and share your thoughts on the climb in our guestbook. To commemorate your achievement, you will receive a commemorative certificate and we will arrange for a comfortable transfer back to your hotel. Appreciate the last day of your trip and the memories you will take with you.
